The Fatmobile: Final Push

Photo of a 1991 Ford Metroliner van on a tan concrete driveway.

November 16 begins our first trek in the Fatmobile, kicking off a 2-week adventure driving from southern Virginia down to visit family in Florida and then back home. We’re so close to having the van ready, but need a little help getting over the final hurdle.

We’ve gotten new tires, adjusted the alignment, oil change, and solar panel installed. Our biggest needs now are:

  • a 200 amp-hour battery for the solar panel to charge
  • 16oz propane tank(s)
  • a basic tune-up
  • fixing the electric to the 12V/cigarette lighter on the dashboard
  • new wiper blades (with a spare set)
  • If possible, it’d be great to have cruise control that works, too, but that’s not a necessity!

How can you help?

The biggest way to help is to donate to our GoFundMe campaign. Initially we thought it would just take $300 more to reach this goal – but that was based on an incorrect estimate we’d been given. So it’s going to be closer to $500.

We have a wish list, too! It includes the battery we need along with a 4-pack of propane tanks. Or, if you’d prefer to contribute to the comfort of our trip, there are things like blankets, pillows, and sheets on the list, as well.
